Game Update: v.0.10.1 - November 3, 2024
This time, our focus has been not only on gameplay but also on refining the game as a physical product. We all know how crucial it is to get component sizes right, design practical inserts (which many complex games often lack), and ensure an enjoyable player experience.
In this version, we’ve implemented 88 changes of varying detail. Here are the key updates:
General Changes:
Character Development
Managing skill tiles was slowing the game down, even though the mechanic itself was intriguing. To address this, we introduced skill trees with pre-set slots. Now, you’ll also use resources to unlock them, which has changed the game’s balance.
We reduced the number of skills from 5 to 4, as several of them were rarely used.
We reverted to the original concept where you can use all additional actions from unlocked slots.
Each character now starts with a unique set of resources detailed on their character card.
Character abilities have been removed, as they were largely redundant with Omamori card abilities. Asymmetry has now been incorporated in other ways.
Inventory slots have been reduced from 12 to 8.
Combat with Shadows
We’ve reintroduced the concept of Shadow Groups. The strength of a Shadow Group is determined by rolling a number of six-sided dice (d6) equal to the number of shadows in the group.
Factions
We replaced standees with double-sided tokens. This change makes faction mechanics more intuitive and unifies components (tokens can now be stored in the inventory).
Creatures / Oni Bosses
Updated card design with a vertical layout, revised iconography, and added special abilities for creatures.
New Items
Action Items: Using action items, you may play a main action.
Move Item: This item increases the number of spaces you can move.
New Skills
Steal: Steal an item or resource from another player.
Collect: Repeat the influence effect from a Day card.
Actions
You can no longer perform the same action twice across different turns.
Summon: This action allows players to move and remove resources from the skill tree.
Spending a firefly token allows you to replay a main action within the same turn.
Adventure Deck
To enhance immersion, we created an Adventure Deck. Drawing from this deck gives players a chance to encounter various types of adventures.
Tori Cards: Added an option to offer a sacrifice to the Kami gods in exchange for Yokai powers.
Wanderer Kill: Yes, we now allow players to eliminate NPCs.
Next Steps
By November 8, we’ll finalize the prototypes.
By November 14, we’ll complete the updated game instructions.
Once the instructions are finished, we’ll send the prototypes to content creators for preview and feedback.
We do not plan any further improvements before the end of the crowdfunding campaign, which will take place in the first quarter of 2025.
